Hi! I’m Chris. Ex teacher, full time sweet enthusiast, owner and head baker at FlanaBakes.

I’ve always had a passion for all things sweet. When I visit a restaurant the first thing I always look at is the dessert menu.

Cake is that important to me!

I began FlanaBakes in early 2019 when I was craving some cupcakes but didn’t want to drive anywhere to get some. Laziness in it’s highest form, I know! In that moment I decided to try making a batch myself (not so lazy now, eh?), and to my surprise they actually turned out quite well!

I have a huge sweet tooth as it is, which in turn encouraged me to experiment with more cupcake flavours and other bakes. I also found the whole baking process very therapeutic and the science behind it really interesting. After months of baking and branching out to also make brownies, cookies and doughnuts, I was inundated with requests from people to place orders (much to my surprise!), and the rest, as they say, is history!

In June 2021 I decided to put my teaching career on hold to pursue cakes full time. The idea of being my own boss equally thrills and terrifies me! But so far I’m loving it!

In May 2022 we opened FlanaBakes HQ on King Street, Magherafelt!

Currently we open on Fridays & Saturdays from 10am - 4pm, and Sundays from 12:30pm - 5pm.
